Resources

The resources of the Robert C. Byrd Center for Legislative Studies include the extensive collection of Senator Byrd’s papers and memorabilia, other archival collections, oral histories, and a specialized library of books that include major reference works on Congress, biographies of current and former members of the House and Senate.

The Center has general reference material on the U. S. Constitution, the Supreme Court, and the Executive branch of the federal government. The books in the Center’s collection are being integrated into the catalogue of the Shepherd University Library. The Centers books are non-circulating but can be used by researchers in the Center’s Reading Room.

We also have a special collection of 600 volumes on American journalism including print, radio and television in the 20th Century, donated to the Center by the Historian of the U. S. Senate Donald A. Ritchie. The focus of the bulk of our research material covers national and West Virginia politics in the sixty year period from 1950 to 2010.
