Tour the Center
The Byrd Center is located on the campus of Shepherd University next door to the Ruth Scarborough Library.
We host numerous campus and community events each year including lectures, film screenings, book talks, and conferences. Our Rotunda/Lobby serves as a place for receptions.
Located near the front entrance is our office suite where you can meet with our staff. A section of our reference library and objects from Senator Byrd's collection are displayed in this area as well.
The main level contains offices, classroom spaces, and our 100-seat auditorium which is the site of lectures, film screenings, panel discussions, and a number of other events each year.
The lower level contains our multi-purpose room, which is an excellent setting for conferences and meetings.
The upper level houses our reading room where researchers can work with items from our archival and reference collections.
The archive is where our collections are housed. The Byrd Center holds the papers of three former members of Congress and one officer of the House of Representatives, all from West Virginia.
