Alan B. Mollohan Papers Collection

The Alan B. Mollohan Collection contains legislative papers, constituent correspondence, casework, projects, campaign materials, and personal records in both analog and born-digital media. The records in these series document the long-term work of Alan B. Mollohan on the House Appropriations Committee and his role in securing billions of dollars in federal aid for projects in West Virginia, often in collaboration with Senator Robert C. Byrd. There are also committee-related records detailing ethics investigations in the United States House of Representatives in the first decade of the twenty-first century.

Biographical Information:

Alan B. Mollohan (b. 1943) was elected to his seat in the United States House of Representatives in 1983 and represented the first congressional district of West Virginia for twenty-eight years until his primary defeat in 2011. During much his service in Congress, he was a member of the House Appropriations Committee, working closely alongside Senator Robert C. Byrd to secure billions in support of federal projects for improving infrastructure, education, healthcare, and employment opportunities in West Virginia. He was also a leading figure in several high-profile ethics investigations in the United States House of Representatives in the early-2000s.
