We are pleased to announce that the collection is now fully processed and ready for researchers!
The Press Series occupies 116 linear feet and contains 238 boxes. The collection is divided into eight subseries: General Press, Appropriations, Bird’s Eye Views, Newsletters, Charleston Gazette & Daily Mail, Obituaries, Original Press Releases, and Photos. These subseries cover Senator Byrd’s career from 1951 until his death in 2010. This collection features news clippings, memos, press releases, staff files, and a wide variety of other documents that give great insight into the relationship between politicians and the press.
Processing may have seemed like a long and tedious task, but it was really a great experience. Malorie has gone through nearly 60 years worth of congressional press files and found so many interesting bits of history every day. She is very happy to open this fascinating collection to the public!
