Robert C. Byrd Oral History Interviews
Senator Robert C. Byrd sat for several oral history interviews over the course of his career.
In February 1977, Senator Byrd gave two interviews with Frank Van Der Linden as part of the United States Capitol Historical Society Oral History Program. In these interviews, Senator Byrd described his childhood, his path to the U.S. Senate, and ultimately his rise to the majority leadership. At the close of his tenure as Majority Leader, Senator Byrd gave five interviews for the U.S. Senate Historical Office, conducted by Senate Historian Dr. Richard A. Baker between December 1989 and April 1990. These extensive interviews give insight into Senator Byrd's career over four decades and his reflection on leading the U.S. Senate as its majority leader. All seven of these interviews were acquired by the Byrd Center as part of Senator Byrd's Congressional Papers Collection. You can view both sets of interviews by clicking on the buttons below. |
