Following the debut of the traveling exhibit as part of the Allied Art Festival in Parkersburg, West Virginia, we packed up the second copy of the exhibit for our first trip into the southern region of the state. On Friday, June 10, the exhibit opened during a reception at the Tamarack Conference Center in Beckley, West Virginia. Tamarack is a museum, art gallery, and studio for visiting artisans from throughout West Virginia which was established in 1996 during the tenure of Governor Gaston Caperton. The Robert C. Byrd Traveling Exhibit’s showing at Tamarack coincides with the art center’s twentieth anniversary celebration, which will take place later this month. The exhibit will also be at Tamarack on June 20, 2016, West Virginia Day, the celebration of the state’s 153rd birthday. We were honored to have Governor Caperton deliver remarks at our reception for the opening of the exhibit on Friday evening. Reminiscing about Senator Byrd’s role as a national and international leader, Governor Caperton spoke of the senator’s dedication to West Virginia and to the institution of the U.S. Senate. We were also honored to welcome long-time West Virginia Congressman Nick Joe Rahall, who spoke on his many years of service as a staffer and later member of Congress alongside Senator Byrd. The exhibit will be on display at the Tamarack Conference Center until July 5, 2016 and is open for visitors from 8:00 am – 8:00 pm daily.
